MAUND® RUM

Born in the Caribbean raised in the wild Alps.

The origins of the MAUND Rum Collection are unique ‘blends’ of Caribbean rum distillates, matured for years in selected barrels in the countries of origin. The ‘Maund Finishing Single Cask Finishing’ has been perfected by us over many years and takes place exclusively in selected Pinot Noir barrels in the ‘wild Alps’.

For rum aficionados, ‘MAUND RUM’ is characterised by the rich aromas typical of the countries of origin and surprises with its elegant and smooth finish.

Since our first bottling in 2016, our range of single cask rums has won awards year after year. A selection of tasting notes from international expert judges for our Rum Collection and all other distillates can be found here.

Why John Oakley Maund ?

Inspiration for Maund Whisky

 John Oakley Maund

John Oakley Maund was an English banker and alpinist who became famous in the 19th century for several first ascents in the Mont Blanc massif. Inspired by his passion for nature and adventure, Sir J.O. Maund had impressive hunting villas built by William Morris - including on Lake Lucerne and in the Arlberg region, at the foothills of the Ünschenberg Alpe in the Bregenzerwald. The Maund Estate was considered the largest hunting ground of the Austrian monarchy in the Alps.

The legendary ‘Villa Maund’ in the Bregenzerwald was used as a hunting lodge by Crown Prince Wilhelm of Prussia from the beginning of the 20th century. From 1995, the artist and activist Paul Renner lived in the property and invited illustrious guests such as Zaha Hadid, Ferran Adrià, Günter Brus and the ‘incognito’ members of the ‘infamous’ Hell Fire Touring Club.

A place full of myths and legends - and the source of inspiration for the creations of

THE WILD ALPS - ALCHEMY & ADVENTURE.

In addition to a ‘The Wild Alps - Private Members Club’, this unique ‘British-Scottish’ estate was also to be the location for storing and maturing MAUND whisky and rum specialities. Unfortunately, this idea of a club in the British tradition came to nothing.

...What did ‘become something’, however, were the spirits developed by Theresia and Peter.
